Not a decline. Just not yet.
A contractor with an ABN under six months old and an unpaid utility default on his credit file. We didn't submit the deal, we fixed the file first. Six weeks later: approved, settled, $80,000 over 60 months, and a 2026 Ford Raptor in the driveway.
The challenge.
The client was contracting under an ABN less than six months old and needed a ute for the work. On paper he had two problems, and either one alone kills a vehicle application: an unpaid utility default sitting on his credit file, and a business too young to show a lender anything. Submitted as it stood, the file was a decline. And a decline isn't neutral. It leaves an enquiry on the credit file that the next lender reads, so firing the application in anyway would have made the file worse than doing nothing.
How we structured it.
So we didn't submit. We built a six-week plan instead. First the default: we worked through getting it resolved and removed from the file. At the same time, the client gathered work source letters from the business he was contracting to, which gave the income a paper trail his six-month-old ABN couldn't. When he came back, the file read differently. Clean credit. Documented, ongoing contract income. The same deal that would have been declined in week one was now one a lender could approve on its merits.
The outcome.
Approved and settled: $80,000 over a 60-month term, and the Raptor went to work. Six weeks is nothing in the life of a loan. The difference between a rushed decline and this outcome wasn't the client's income or the asset. It was the order of operations.
